Sources inside US embassy in Cairo deny recent reports of upcoming meeting between US secretary of state and Egypt's new Islamist president-elect

Sources inside the US embassy in Cairo on Wednesday denied that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was planning a visit to Cairo on Saturday to meet with Egyptian President-elect Mohamed Morsi.

The same sources went on to say that the US administration had not interfered in Egypt's just-concluded presidential election, stressing that assertions to the contrary raised questions about Egypt's national sovereignty and the sovereignty of the Egyptian judiciary.

Nevertheless, Egyptian media sources on Wednesday reported that Clinton, along with other senior US officials, planned to meet Morsi to discuss the future of US-Egyptian relations and the Egypt-Israel peace treaty, and to urge Egypt's new leadership to respect the socio-religious rights of Egypt's sizable Coptic-Christian community.

Embassy sources also reportedly stressed Washington's keenness to hold dialogue with all parties concerning bilateral relations.
