Tunisia has sufficient wheat reserves to last until the wheat harvest starts in the summer, according to the official TAP news agency.

"Reserves of soft wheat and durum wheat are sufficient up to July 5, 2011, the date of the start of the wheat harvest," it said, quoting an agriculture ministry statement.

Tunisia tendered for at least 25,000 tonnes of hard durum wheat on Friday, its first since the unrest in the country began.

The demonstrations, which forced out ex-president Zine al-Abdine Ben Ali, focused on unemployment and poverty and included protests against the cost of food staples, including bread.
