The experienced left-back likely to recover from injury in time to make Ahly’s squad for next month’s FIFA Club World Cup

Sayed Moawad, who missed Ahly’s victory over Esperance in the African Champions League final due to a foot injury, is likely to be fit for next month’s Club World Cup, the club said on Friday.

“His chances of going to Japan are good. He took part in the morning training session and came through it unscathed,” Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz said on the club’s official website.

“Moawad might not need to fly to Portugal to undergo treatment; he will just continue his rehabilitation until we go to Japan.”

Moawad, 33, has been a key member of Ahly’s squad since joining in 2008 after ending a highly-successful spell with the Red Devils’ bitter rivals Ismaily.

The diminutive winger is known for his penetration runs down the left flank and his pinpoint crosses.

Ahly won a record-extending seventh Champions League title after claiming a 3-2 aggregate victory over holders Esperance of Tunisia.

They will make a fourth appearance at the Club World Cup in Japan next month.
