Mahmoud Fathallah hopes to shine on Egypt's national team, which will take on Zimbabwe in March in 2014 World Cup qualifier

Egypt and Zamalek defender Mahmoud Fathallah said on Monday that he would be happy to put on the Pharaohs' jersey following a long absence.

"It's an honour to join the Egypt national team's squad," Fathallah was quoted as saying on Zamalek's official website.

Egypt manager Bob Bradley has included the Zamalek defender in the 25-man squad for a Qatar friendly in Doha slated for 28 December.

"I'm happy to be named on the squad during the current league suspension, as this reflects the coach's confidence in my abilities," Fathallah added.

"I hope to be effective in the squad and help Egypt book a place in 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil," he concluded.

The winners of seven African Cup of Nations trophies, Egypt's national team are currently preparing to host Zimbabwe in March for a 2014 World Cup qualifier.
