The leading Egyptian leftist party says Moussa's proposals to suspend labour strikes are 'arrogant'and his call for truce with Morsi 'will open the door to dismantle National Salvation Front

The Socialist Popular Alliance Party (SPA) has rejected the initiative announced by Amr Moussa, the head of the Conference Party and member of the National Salvation Front (NSF), to end the current political standoff between the presidency and the opposition.

The SPA said in a statement on Wednesday that Moussa issued his proposals without consulting with the NSF.

Moussa had announced his five-point initiative last week in a number of state-owned a private media outlets and it was later discussed by political groups, including the NSF.

Moussa’s initiative calls for reaching a political truce between the NSF and the presidency; forming a one-year emergency cabinet headed by President Mohamed Morsi and comprising all political factions; suspending labour strikes while respecting the right to demonstrate peacefully; and forming a committee of constitutional experts to review the disputed articles in the newly approved constitution and presenting them to the emergency government.

The SPA rejected Moussa proposal on suspending strikes saying it “ignores the fact that workers strikes take place due to humiliating working conditions and the ruling authorities' policies that favor the rich."

The SPA described the no-strike proposal as "arrogant" towards the Egyptian people, and called it a deviation from the January 25 revolution's goal of fighting for social justice.

The party also rejected the call for a political truce with the president saying the former head of the Arab League “accepts a ruling authority which does not fulfill its promises, betrays the aims of the revolution, and passes laws against the interest of the working class."

The leftist party warned that the implementation of Moussa's suggestions could represent the "shortest way to dismantle the NSF," and for the recently-assembled coalition to lose its credibility.
