Head of Russian grain producers union says wheat will not be delivered to Egypt until July
Russia will be unable to provide Egypt with wheat until the beginning of the new grains season starting in July, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing Arcady Zlochevsky, head of the Russian grain producers union.
Zlochevsky’s statements coincide with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi's visit to Russia, the world’s third-biggest wheat exporter.
Morsi's visit is expected to focus on Egypt's energy, wheat and financing needs.
“Russia can export more than 20 million tonnes of grains to Egypt in next season and this would be enough,” Zlochevsky told Reuters.
Russia's new crop is likely to arrive in June or July; its 2013 grain harvest is officially expected at 90-92 million tonnes with an exportable surplus of around 20 million tonnes.
