The Egyptian midfielder is set to stay at Basel after making a fine impact at the Swiss side this season
FC Basel have decided to take up the option of signing Egyptian midfielder Mohamed El-Neny on a permanent basis, the Swiss club said on Friday.
The 21-year-old joined Basel from Arab Contractors on a six-month loan deal last January with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season.
"FC Basel have taken up the option of signing Mohamed El-Neny on a four-year deal until 30 June 2017," Basel said in a statement on their website.
El-Neny is the second Egyptian player to sign for Basel, joining compatriot Mohamed Salah.
During his short loan stint, El-Neny established himself as a key player in the heart of Basel’s midfield, thanks to his precise and efficient passes.
He shone during the Olympic Games in London last year and has become a regular member of Egypt's senior team under American coach Bob Bradley.
