The Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) has released an Arabic translation of the book Nazareyat Al-Qawmeya (Theories of Nationalism: A critical introduction) by Turkish political scientist Umut Ozkiriml, translated by Maeen Imam.

Ozkirmili reconstructs the analysis of theories of nationalism in light of social phenomena that shocked the world over the past few decades, such as the ethnic cleansing in the Balkan, tribal massacres in Africa and civil strife in Asia.

The author provides new arguments regarding the concepts of nation, nationalism and political movements. In addition, he provides an analysis of the ideologies that cover nationalistic interests and aims at presenting a better understanding of the idea of nationalism.

Ozkirmili focuses his analysis on the works of the nationalistic theorists from the 18th century until the beginning of the 21 century.

The author concludes that the common theme of nationalism is represented in the absolute priority of the interests of the nation as it is the only source of legitimacy and sole determiner of identity.
