Brotherhood political party announces funeral march for protesters killed near republican guard building Friday where they believed deposed president Morsi was being held
Supporters of Egypt's deposed president Mohamed Morsi at Rabaa Al-Adawiya Mosque will hold a funeral march on Saturday to nearby republican guard headquarters, says the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP).
"We will hold a funeral march for the two killed in the military massacre of President Mohamed Morsi supporters," reads the statement by the FJP, who fielded Morsi in the elections.
Clashes broke out on Friday in front of the republican guard, killing at least four as Islamist protesters gathered around the building under the belief that Morsi was being held inside in what they describe as a "coup d'etat."
Thousands continue to demonstrate in support of the deposed president Morsi at Rabaa Al-Adawiya Mosque and its surrounding streets and they stress they will continue until Morsi is reinstated.
Meanwhile, anti-Morsi protestors began demonstrating Saturday in Tahrir Square to "protect the achievements of 30 June," i.e. the removal of Morsi.
On Friday clashes erupted between supporters of deposed president Morsi against opponents and security forces. Theclashes across 19 governorates have left 36 dead and 1138 injured, according to Egypt's health ministry.
On 30 June an estimated 33 million disenfranchised by the FJP's sweep of most government institutions came out to the streets on the year anniversary of Morsi taking the presidential street to demand early elections.
The Islamists who support Morsi argue he was democratically elected – by 13.2 million voters - and any such calls are illegitimate.
Under this political impasse and pro- and anti-Morsi masses on the streets, the military intervened and issued a 48-hour ultimatum, which resulted in deposing Morsi and led to the clashes.
