A delegation of human rights organisations complained of mistreatment by supporters of the deposed president Mohamed Morsi during their inspection at the Rabaa Al-Adawiya sit-in on Thursday.

"The rights group delegation has been banned from photographing or being anywhere inside the sit-in," said Mohamed Adel from Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights and one of the delegation via Twitter.

According to Adel the delegation was kicked out of the sit-in's makeshift field hospital and the headquarters of the media committee.

"Ahmed El-Mogheir and Abdel-Rahman Ezz (both Islamist activists) have attempted to assault me and my colleague Mokhtar Mohamed from Hesham Mubarak Centre," said

Adel, who added that the incident occurred in the presence of leading Freedom and Justice Party member Ahmed Sobei.

Adel’s testimony was echoed by Islam Lotfi a former Muslim Brotherhood member and founder of the Egyptian Current Party, who said that none of the sit-in supervisors sided with the rights group committee.

Lotfi also accused El-Mogheir and Ezz of running after some of the group, saying the situation was going to escalate if it was not for the "wise men" who interfered.

El-Mogheir denied assaulting the group, asserting that they protested the presence of the rights group "because they’re not neutral."

"I understand that this delegation could be neutral if they did not form preconceived notions of the sit-in before their visit," added El-Mogheir.

Adel told Ahram Online on Wednesday that the delegation was going to inspect the situation and investigate claims of torture and weapons possession at the site.

There have been media reports about local residents being tortured at the protest and eye-witness reports of weapons possession.

The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, Al-Nadeem Centre, Cairo Centre, Hisham Mubarak Human Rights Centre and Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights were part of the delegation.
