In what will be the final concert of the annual Hayy Festival held at El-Genaina Theatre, Palestinian singer Sanaa Moussa will perform on Sunday 4 August
A performance by Palestinian musician Sanaa Moussa will bring this Ramadan's Hayy Festival at El-Genaina Theatre to a close.
The festival has already featured performances by four Arab singers: Noura Mint Seymali from Mauritania, Khansa Batma from Morocco, and Nawel Ben Kraiem and Ghalia Ben Ali from Tunisia.
The festival brings local and regional musicians and performers to the open-air El-Genaina Theatre during the fasting month of Ramadan. The organisers, Al-Mawred Al-Thaqafy, one of Egypt's most dynamic cultural agencies, are driven by a mission to support artistic creativity in the Arab world and foster regional cultural exchange.
The organisers of the Hayy Festival had previously postponed Moussa’s performace due to mass protests across Egypt. The concert was originally scheduled for 26 July.
Moussa, returning to the Hayy Festival for a second time, is expected to bring her contemporary folk tunes to El-Genaina. Inspired to delve into classical Arab music and Palestinian folk by her father, who was a popular musician and singer, Moussa strives to preserve folkloric music and pass it on across generations. Her music gives a voice to Palestinian women and the struggles they face under occupation.
