Bomb experts diffuse a primitive hand grenade left under a police officer's car in the Upper Egyptian city of Assiut on Saturday

Egyptian security forces diffused an explosive device placed under a car belonging to a police officer in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Assiut, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

According to eyewitnesses, an unidentified device was planted beneath the car. Bomb experts who arrived on the scene to diffuse the device said it was a primitive homemade hand grenade.

Egyptian security forces have found explosive devices near police and train stations in several governorates as political violence continues to grip the country since the deposal of former president Mohamed Morsi by the military on 3 July.

On 5 September, a bomb detonated near the convoy of interim president Mohamed Ibrahim in Cairo in a failed attempt on his life. One person was killed and more than twenty people were injured by the explosion.
