The leftist Tagammu party has said it is confident of only one candidate seat in parliament, out of 74 the group was campaigning for. The head of the party's political bureau, Hussein Abdel Razek, said he expected the seat to go to Abdel Rasheed Helal from the Mazghouna constituency in the governorate of 6th October. Reports on the Facebook page "We love Helal", which follows the candidate closely, indicate otherwise.

Five other Tagammu candidates are expected to go through into the run-offs Sunday. The outcome of six other candidates of the 74 fielded remains unclear.

While a majority win by the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) was expected, opposition parties expected to secure more seats, despite the anticipated vote-rigging. Abdel Razek said the NDP “played its part to the fullest in marginalizing and excluding all other opposition parties and groups.”

While vote-rigging was worse than expected, he said violence, surprisingly, was less. "It was not as bad as we predicted, given previous elections,” he said. “But, of course, it’s not over, is it? Protests are still going on all over the country, so things may well get worse.”
