Engineering students at Cairo University are to stage a sit-in demanding retribution for killed colleague Mohamed Reda

The Student Union of Cairo University's Engineering Faculty announced Saturday that preparations for a sit-in on campus had begun. The students are demanding that those responsible for killing their colleague Mohamed Reda are held accountable.

Students already announced a strike last Saturday.

Reda was killed last week with birdshot fire during clashes between students and security forces. According to the head of Cairo University, Gaber Nassar, security forces stormed the campus using tear gas and birdshot against students.

The interior ministry denied using excessive force against the students, or the use of birdshot.

For his part, Engineering Faculty Dean Sherif Mourad told Al-Ahram Arabic website that no one would interfere with the planned sit-in, adding that the security presence on campus aims only to prevent sabotage.
