The grassroots campaign announces that ex-detainees and those still in detention will report their accounts of torture to the prosecutor-general

Protesters who were detained on 25 January as part of demonstrations to mark the third anniversary of the 2011 uprising have announced they will file a report with the country's prosecutor-general regarding the alleged torture they faced in central Cairo's Azbakia police station.

A statement issued on Wednesday from "Freedom for the Brave," a campaign to release detained political prisoners in Egypt, said that the report would be brought to the prosecutor-general on Thursday by former detainees and the relatives of those still in police custody.

The detainees allege they were subjected to torture by security forces during their arrest on 25 January and throughout their detention period, the statement said.

The campaign said that the list of detainees preparing the report includes prominent activists like Khaled El-Sayed, who spent over a month in prison.

In February, El-Sayed released a letter from his jail cell in which he described accounts of alleged torture and ill-treatment by security forces.

"Everyone is beaten every day," El-Sayed wrote, adding that prisoners were often electrocuted and forced to remain in overcrowded cells with no room to sit or sleep.

The allegations drew harsh criticism from several rights activists.

El-Sayed was released earlier this month along with two other leading activists,Mohamed El-Sayes and Nagy Kamal.

Over 1,000 people were arrested during the 25 January protests, according to the interior ministry, which has repeatedly denied the accusations of torture.

The "Freedom for the Brave" statement on Wednesday invited all detainees who say they have been tortured to also file a report with the prosecutor-general.
