A Giza criminal court accepted early on Thursday the prosecution's appeal against the release of Wasat Party leader Abul-Ela Madi on bail.

The south Giza prosecution had appealed the release of the detained Islamist leader on Wednesday, hours after the Giza criminal court's decision to release him on LE10,000 bail.

According to the Giza criminal court, Madi will thus be detained for another 45 days.

Madi, who is being held in Tora Prison, faces charges of inciting violence between opponents and supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi during clashes at Giza's Nahda Square and Bein Al-Sarayat neighbourhood.

He is also accused of delivering inflammatory speeches during the Rabaa Al-Adawiya protest camp held by Morsi supporters last summer to demand the Islamist president's reinstatement following his ouster on 3 July.

Founded by Abul-Ela Madi, the Wasat Party is counted among the leading bodies in the pro-Morsi National Alliance to Support Legitimacy.
