Egyptian Seham El-Sawalhi failed to add another win to the taekwondo team's total at the Rio Olympics following Hedaya Malak's bronze medal, losing to Ivory Coast's Marie Christelle Gbagbi 4-3 in the taekwondo women's 67kg last-16 on Friday.

Following Malak's third bronze medal for Egypt earlier in the day, El-Sawalhi was expected to have an easy task against Gbagbi, only to lose and miss out on a place in the quarter-finals.

After going down 1-0 to Gbagbi, the 25-year-old favourite managed to come back from behind and lead 2-1 following the second round.

But it was the third round where El-Sawalhi was condemned to the 4-3 defeat, with the Egyptian failing to come back.

Should Gbagbi reach the final, El-Sawalhi would play in the repechage round, the winner of which could vie for a bronze medal.
