Sherif Osman says he still has dreams to fulfill after winning Egypt’s first gold medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, and his own successive third. Sherif won the men’s 59 kg powerlifting event held Friday with a record-breaking performance.

“I feel unbelievable and I feel I’m in the middle of the road, because I have a very big dream to win six gold medals in the Paralympic Games,” Osman told reporters after the event.

The 33-year-old, who broke his own Paralympic and world records with a 0.5kg difference, lifting 211 kg in his final attempt, won gold in the last two games — Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

“It’s an amazing feeling and I must thank all of Brazil for their support,” the Minya-born athlete added.

The Egyptian champion easily overcame Ali Jawad of Great Britain who won silver lifting 190 kg while China’s Quanxi Yang came third after a lift of 170 kg.

Egypt has won three medals in the Rio Paralympic Games taking place 7-18 September; with Rehab Ahmed winning the women's 50 kg silver and Shaaban Ibrahim winning the men's 65 kg bronze.
