The 42-year-old has had a whirlwind round of coaching posts since moving to Africa in 2010, with stints at clubs in Algeria, Angola, Cameroon, Egypt, the Ivory Coast, Morocco and Tunisia.

Uganda is his first national team job after being appointed to the post in December 2017. The Frenchman hails from Valence.

He was named as the 2016 Best African-based Player at the annual Confederation of African Football awards, after helping his club Mamelodi Sundowns to win the African Champions League title.

Despite injury since, his performances have contributed greatly to the success of the South African champions, who reached the Champions League semi-finals this year.

His career has taken off over the last five years after initially stagnating when he joined Pretoria club SuperSport United from east Africa.
