  • Last World Cup appearance: 2022 (group stage)

Qualification: After beating Comoros in their final qualifying match, Ghana topped their group ahead of Madagascar following a strong campaign — eight wins, one draw, and one defeat.

Coach: In March, the Ghanaian federation parted ways with Otto Addo, who had been in post since 2024, following four consecutive friendly defeats — the last of which was a 1–2 loss to Germany. He was replaced in April by experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, who will be taking charge at his fifth World Cup as a manager, after the 2010 tournament with Portugal and the 2014, 2018, and 2022 editions with Iran.

Star player: After making just 19 minutes of World Cup football in Qatar, striker Antoine Semenyo has grown into a key figure for the Ghanaian national team. The 26-year-old winger was at Bristol City in the English Championship at the time before bursting onto the scene at Bournemouth, catching the eye of Manchester City, who signed him in January. With the Citizens, he made 27 appearances and scored 11 goals while providing three assists across all competitions — raising hopes that he can take a further step up with the national team, for whom he has scored just three goals in 34 international appearances.

Ambitions: After two successful early World Cup runs — reaching the round of 16 in 2006 and the quarter-finals in 2010 — the Black Stars stumbled in 2014 and 2022, going out in the group stage both times. Having also failed to qualify for the most recent AFCON, Ghana are eager to return to the knockout stages at the World Cup, though the task will not be straightforward in a strong group — where, behind England and Croatia, they face a direct battle with Panama.
