Former Ahly skipper Wael Gomaa was appointed the team's new football director, the Cairo giants announced on Saturday.
The veteran Egypt defender announced he would retire by the end of this season, ending a 13-year career with the Red Devils.
The 38-year-old joined Ahly in 2001 from Mahalla to play an instrumental role in guiding the team to win 26 different domestic and continental titles.
At the international level, Gomaa was a key figure on the Pharaohs team in the last decade, guiding them to win three successive Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
Gomaa will work under the guidance of new coach Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido who recently took the charge of Egyptian league champions Ahly for the coming two seasons.
