Eight conscripts sustained second-degree burns over most of their bodies while cleaning their bunkers, brought to hospital in Ismailiya

Eight Egyptian army conscripts were badly burned in an electrical fire on Saturday and have been transported to a hospital in Ismailiya, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported.

The conscripts, who serve in the Suez Canal waterway protection unit, were cleaning their bunkers with gas when an electrical circuit shorted and sparked a fire.

The conscripts received immediate basic medical treatment before being transported to Ismailiya's Kantara Hospital.

They sustained second-degree burns, with around 60 to 80 percent of their bodies burned.

Two of the conscripts are in critical condition.
