Egyptian javelin thrower Ehab Abdel-Rahman has become the first ever non-European to clinch the world's top javelin honour after clinching a gold medal in the Continental Cup, held in Marrakesh, Morocco this year.
Abdel-Rahman's 85.44m throw in the second round put him ahead of the Czech Republic’s world champion Vitezslav Vesely, who produced an 83.77m throw for second place.
Trinidad's Keshorn Walcott – who won gold in the 2012 Olypmics – took bronze with an 81.02 metres throw.
The Egyptian delegation is returning Monday to celebrate Abdel-Rahman's success along with hammer thrower Salah El-Gamal, who won the championship's silver medal with a 78.89 meters throw, 10 cm less than the gold medallist.
