Alexandria governorate is expected to host a massive Ramadan Iftar Banquet along its Mediterranean corniche on Friday in an attempt to break the Guiness world record for the longest and largest public banquet.

Five students at the University of Alexandria had recently presented the idea to Alexandria's governor as a way of breaking the current Guinness Book of world record.

According to the Gunness Book of World Records, the largest banquet ever made was in India in 1995 when a former minister held a wedding banquet for over 15,000 guests in Madras region, which covered an area of 50 acres.

The Banquet will stretch from the San Stefano area to the Stanley Bridge along the corniche at a distance of 3 kilomertres

Osama Barakat, one of the five students at the University of Alexandria who pioneered the idea, told Ahram Arabic news website that famous grill and fish restaurants in Alexandria are sponsoring the event.

The Islamic fasting month of Ramadan is the perfect time for such public Banquet, he said.
