Tunisia slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat by lowly Liberia away from home, while South Africa were thumped 3-1 by another minnows in Mauritania in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
A 79th-minute goal from ex-Ahly striker Francis Doe Forkey was enough to down the Tunisians, who thumped Djibouti 8-1 in the opener.
Togo now moved top of Group A with six points following their 2-0 win over Djibouti, while Tunisia slipped to second.
Another African heavyweights to lose were South Africa, who slumped to a 3-1 away defeat by Mauritania.
The hosts took the lead after just six minutes through Ali Abeid before South Africa's Thamsanqa Gabuza equalized in the 69th minute.
Mauritania, however, managed to restore their lead when Boubacar Beyguili found the net 12 mintues later, before Khalil Ahmed widened the gap three minutes from time to make sure of the win.
South Africa are now bottom of their group on a single point, while Mauritania have climbed to second with four.
