An Egyptian police conscript, who was in detention for allegedly stabbing a colleague to death, committed suicide, Al-Ahram's Arabic site reported on Saturday.
The conscript, who was assigned to a Cairo traffic police unit, reportedly killed his colleague after they had a disagreement over a financial matter.
Other police conscripts witnessed the incident, in which the unnamed man stabbed the victim in the stomach. The victim died upon arrival at the hospital.
The accused conscript was detained following interrogation. The method of his reported suicide was not announced.
Media reports have indicated that suicide rates in Egypt have increased over the past year. However, lack of official records makes accurate suicide rates in Egypt hard to determine.
