الزرع ان ما غني ستر

El zara’ en ma ghana sater

Translation: Farming may not make you rich, but it will sustain you.

Meaning: This proverb, now dated, is in praise of farming. The traditional farmer, who didn’t borrow from banks or rent expensive machinery, may not have enough to make a profit, but everyday he gets eggs from his chicken and milk from his cow, etc. It’s like living in a Third World country-- you may not have enough money for fancy restaurants, but you can always find a cheap meal around the corner.
