Magnolia Leaves of Art will screen the 1960s thriller Psycho, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
The film is widely noted among the greatest in film history, and is considered the mother of modern horror and thriller films, with Hitchcock breaking many of the then-established filmmaking conventions.
The plot follows the story of Janet, who is on the run after stealing from her employer. When she stops at the Bates Motel, she meets the polite and peculiar Norman Bates who runs the place with his difficult mother.
The psychological thriller is known for its famous shower scene, and is rich with Hitchcock’s signature language and techniques in storytelling, with complex layering of symbolism and motifs such as such as birds, eyes, hands, and mirrors.
The film stars Anthony Perkins, Marion Crane and Jeanette Nolan, and was nominated for four Academy Awards, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Black-and-White Cinematography, and Best Black-and-White Production Design, yet did not win any and was misunderstood by critics at the time of its release.
