Egypt’s annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 11.9 percent in December 2015, to register 175.4 points, from 10.13 percent in in the same month the year before, the state statistics body CAPMAS announced on its website Sunday.
However, monthly inflation eased 0.1 percent compared to November 2015, reflected in a slowdown in price inflation on food and non-alcoholic beverages during the same period by 0.4 percent.
Egypt said in November it would control the price of 10 essential commodities, as the country tries to keep inflation in check amid a shortage of foreign currency.
The country’s annual urban inflation registered 11.1 percent, unchanged from the previous month.
According to CAPMAS, headline inflation from January to December in 2015 reached 10.6 percent.
