Belgian side Lierse S.K. said on Thursday that they had signed Qatari attacking midfielder Hussein Yasser on a two-year contract although Zamalek denied giving him the green light to depart.
Yasser, who joined Zamalek in January 2010, still has three years remaining on his current deal but he seemingly chose a premature exit after growing increasingly frustrated with the Cairo giants’ failure to hand him his overdue payments.
The 28-year-old filed a complaint with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) last week, demanding that his Zamalek contract be terminated after the club failed to fulfill their financial obligations towards him.
Zamalek, who are suffering from persistent financial problems, insisted that Yasser had received his dues, saying he was not authorized to leave without their approval. The EFA is yet to comment on the matter.
The latest dispute could disrupt Zamalek’s preparations for the new season under new coach Hassan Shehata, given that Yasser is a key member of the team’s squad. He excelled during the latter stages of last season as the White Knights finished runners up to league champions Ahly.
