ElBaradei and representative from disabled community "ElBaradei support campaign"
In a statement issued last Thursday (11 August), the potential presidential candidate Mohamed ElBaradei announced that he would be endorsing the demands of no less than eight million disabled Egyptian to lead a dignified life in a country with a genuine social-justice programme.
Already, on 9 August, ElBaradei had met with representatives of the disabled community in at his house, where he listened to and agreed to adopt their demands, which have been ignored for decades: enabling the disabled to enjoy full electoral rights and providing for their integration into society at all levels.
On his official Twitter account, ElBaradei wrote, “Met today with representatives of 8 million Egyptians with disabilities. Their rights are trampled. New Egypt must be based on equality & solidarity.”
Dr El Baradei was not the only presidential candidate to announce his endorsement of the disabled community in Egypt. In July Mohamed Abuol-Fatouh too launched an initiative to help the disabled in general and the hearing-impaired specifically.
