On 8 March, Awtar Quartet invites audiences to an evening of classical music and tango.
Held at the Cairo Opera House, the concert will also feature violinst Ahmed Ramzy and include compositions by Schubert, Piazzolla, Michael McLean, and Mahmoud Elsherif.
Later in the week, Awtar Quartet will participate in the ongoing Hakawy International Arts Festival for Children, during which they will join a Swedish-Egyptian production of the play Jinan, based on Pipi Longstocking.
The play, which will be staged 11, 12 and 14 March, is tailored for children and will fuse the quartet with storytelling and mise-en-scene by Omar El-Moataz Bellah.
The performance celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Swedish children’s character Pippi Longstocking (Jinan in Arabic).
The Awtar Quartet was founded in 2012 and consists of Egyptian musicians Yasser Ghoneim on first violin, Khaled Saleh on second violin, Essam Abdel-Hamid on viola and Mohamed Abdel-Fattah on cello.
