Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital says in a statement that Socrates was hospitalized Friday.
The statement provided no further information.
The 57-year-old Socrates captained the national squad in the 1982 and 1986 Word Cups and played for Corinthians between 1978 and 1984.
He has also played for Flamengo and Fiorentina.
