Protesters are demanding the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador from Egypt

The youth members of the National Association for Change and the Free Front for Peaceful Change have begun an open-ended sit-in in front of the Maadi residence of the Israeli ambassador.

The protesters have vowed not to end the sit-in until the ambassador leaves Cairo. Yesterday, the two groups hosted an Iftar dinner in front of the ambassador’s house in an attempt to put pressure on him to leave.

The sit-in comes hot on the heels of widespread protests in Cairo, after five Egyptian soldiers were shot by Israeli troops last Thursday. Protests erupted in front of the Israeli embassy in Giza, shortly after the shooting, demanding the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador.
