The Washington Post stated on Thursday that in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, the efforts of the Libyan opposition fighters are focused on a manhunt for the missing dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
The report by the Washington Post listed several rumours concerning Gaddafi’s whereabouts, the most recent of which places him in the Tripoli zoo, which lies close to one of the entrances of the Bab al-Aziziya compound. The area in which the zoo is located is currently under the control of Gaddafi loyalists.
The National Transitional Council has announced a bounty of $1.7 million for Gaddafi’s head and an arrest warrant has been issued for him by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
Several American officials have also stated that they suspect Gaddafi is still in Tripoli. There are close to 40 different places he is sisupected to be hiding in, and most of them are in the capital.
