Syrian security forces killed three military defectors on Thursday during an operation in the northwestern Jabal Al-Zawiyah region, a rights activist said.
The killings occurred during a raid on the house in Ibleen village of a brother of one of defectors, according to the head of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman.
Two other defectors were arrested, he told AFP in Nicosia by telephone. An increasing number of soldiers are deserting Syria's army in protest at having to open fire on demonstrators demanding the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime, rights activists say.
