World number one Novak Djokovic was one set away from clinching his maiden French Open title on Sunday when he won the third to lead 3-6 6-1 6-2 in his final against British second seed Andy Murray.
The Serbian, looking to become the third man to hold all four grand slam titles at the same time, broke in the third game when Murray buried an easy volley and again in the fifth with a delicate angled drop shot.
He bagged the set on his third opportunity when Murray's backhand sailed long.
Murray, who has never beaten Djokovic after dropping the opening set, won the first set after being broken to love.
He was on the back foot in the first game before winning 16 of 20 points to lead 4-1, finding the perfect balance between defense and attack on Court Philippe Chatrier.
Djokovic held for the first time to narrow the gap to 4-2, but Murray closed it out on serve after two calls by the chair umpire went against the Serbian.
Djokovic broke Murray's serve in the second game of the second set courtesy of his opponent's double fault and tightened his grip in the remainder of the set, which he wrapped up when the Scot returned a serve into the net.
