Palestinian hospital sources say a Palestinian man was shot dead after settlers attacked a village near Nablus

A Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli troops on Friday in clashes which erupted after settlers attacked a village near Nablus, Palestinian hospital sources told AFP.

The man, 37-year-old Issam Badran, died after being hit in the neck by a live bullet, medical officials at Rafidia hospital in the northern city of Nablus said.

The incident occurred in Qusra village, some 15 kilometres (nine miles) southeast of Nablus, which has been the site of a series of clashes between locals and Jewish settlers.

Medics said another three Palestinians were lightly hurt after being hit by rubber bullets, in clashes which erupted after a group of settlers pushed into the village and began smashing windows and throwing stones, local witnesses told AFP.

They said more than 50 settlers from the nearby settlement outpost of Esh Kodesh smashed the windows of several houses on the outskirts of the village with sticks and stones, and the villagers threw stones back.

Israeli troops arrived at the scene and fired tear gas and rubber bullets to try to break up the two sides, although the clashes between locals and the army continued after the settlers had left, Palestinian witnesses said.
