Public transport workers in Sarajevo go back to work after staging a two-day strike over delayed wages that paralysed the Bosnian capital

Buses, trams and trolleys, serving the city of 420,000 in Sarajevo, resumed normal services after public transport workers' union representatives reached a deal with the regional authorities late Wednesday.

"We have reached a solution that is favourable for employees. The cantonal government has accepted all our demands, practically 100 percent," workers' representative Resad Hujdur said.

Some 1,400 public transport workers will receive their August wages on Friday, he explained.

The public transport company -- in which the Sarajevo cantonal government is the majority owner -- is in a deep crisis, with its overall debt estimated at about 40 million euros (54 million dollars).
