Egyptian hammer thrower Mostafa Elgamal is confirmed to miss the 2016 Olympics games in Rio de Janeiro due to a rapture in the knee ligament.
"It's confirmed that I have a very serious injury. There is no hope I can reach Rio," the 27-year-old athlete confirmed to Ahram Online Monday morning.
Elgamal could competed for a silver or bronze medal in his discipline, being the holder of the African record with a 81.27m throw in the 2014 continental cup, breaking the previous record of 80.63 set by South African Chris Harmse in 2005.
This is Egypt's second blow to its Olympic aspirations in two days, as Javelin thrower Ihab Abdel-Rahman may also miss the games after failing an initial doping test. The B sample taken Sunday will decide his participation.
