Ghana, runners up in 2010, reached next year’s African Cup of Nations finals after overcoming Group D competitors Sudan 2-0 in Omdurman on Saturday.
Striker Asamoah Gyan, who recently joined United Arab Emirates club Al-Ain, opened the scoring after 11 minutes.
Defender John Mensah doubled Ghana’s advantage nine minutes later and the Black Stars held onto their lead to finish on top of the group with 16 points, three ahead of second-placed Sudan.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men at the begining of the second half when defender Isaac Vorsah was sent off because of a kick-out at an opponent.
Sudan will wait to find whether they would finish as one of the best second-placed teams in the 11 qualifying groups.
