Egypt will play powerful Croatia in the round of 16 of the Handball World Championship Sunday at 8:45pm Cairo Time (GMT+2).
The Pharaohs finished third in Group D with six points from five matches, two behind Sweden and Denmark, with the latter having a game in hand.
Croatia claimed second place in Group C with 8 points, 2 behind leaders Germany who defeated them 28-21 Friday.
Egypt are looking to qualify for the World Championship quarter-final for the first time since the 2001 finals, where they finished fourth—their highest achievement to date.
Egypt are seeking a higher rank—their best performance since 2001 has been reaching 14th—but Croatia is not an easy opponent to beat. The winners of the 2003 tournament, Croatia has ranked among the top six in every subsequent final.
