The EU on late Saturday called on Israel and Jordan to work together to "ensure security for all" in east Jerusalem's after a series of violent confrontations between Israeli forces and Palestinians left five Palestinians killed and tens injured in recent days.

"We encourage Israel and Jordan to work together to find solutions that ensure security for all," the European Union said in a statement.

The comments come after a flare up of violence between Israeli security forces and Palestinians over new Israel's security measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied east Jerusalem, which Jordan is the custodian.
