Egypt's foreign minister Sameh Shoukry will travel to Amman, Jordan on Saturday to attend a meeting of six Arab FMs to discuss the latest developments concerning the city of Jerusalem, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The meeting will bring together the FMs of Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, the UAE and Egypt, and will be attended by Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit.
The meeting aims to coordinate Arab efforts to preserve the historical and legal status of Jerusalem following the recent decision by US President Donald Trump to recognise the city as the Israeli capital.
On 9 December, the Arab League tasked the six Arab countries with discussing and evaluating the developments concerning the status of Jerusalem following Trump’s decision.
Egypt has long-maintained its support for a two-state solution where East Jerusalem will serve as the capital of a new Palestinian state.
