Ahly striker Fabio Junior will miss the anticipated Egyptian Premier League clash against Ismaily next week after picking up an ankle injury.
Junior has sustained the injury during Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over El-Gaish in the testimonial game of former Egypt star Abdel-Sattar Sabry.
“Junior will be ruled out for two or three weeks, after which he can get back to regular training,” Ahly doctor Ehab Ali told Ahram Online.
Junior, who has failed to win over Ahly fans since joining in the close season, was recently handed a hefty fine by the club’s board of directors after returning late from a vacation.
Veteran playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika and attacking midfielder Walid Soliman are facing a race against time to play against Ahly’s bitter rivals Ismaily.
The Ismaily clash is due to be held behind closed doors as the Reds are punished for fan riots.
However, Ultras Ahlawy, Ahly’s hardcore supporters, vowed Tuesday in a statement that they are determined to attend despite the Egyptian Football Association’s ban decision.
Ahly, who are eyeing an eighth consecutive league crown, are on top of the table with 14 points, one ahead of second-placed Harras El-Hodoud after six matches.
