Mishan al-Jabouri, a former Iraqi lawmaker and exile, tells The Associated Press that he shuttered his Al-Rai TV station last week because of the US withdrawal from Iraq and improved Syrian-Iraqi relations.
Al-Jabouri says it is "no longer suitable" to have a Syria-based channel run by Iraqi opposition figures.
The TV station rose to prominence after broadcasting messages from Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi during the final days of his regime.
Al-Jabouri said however that he would be ready to grant the station to Gaddafi's daughter, Aisha, to be a "voice for the Libyan opposition."
