Egyptian national team players defender Ali Gabr and midfielder Tarek Hamed have been revealed to have moved from Zamalek to Al-Ahram club, formerly known as Al Assiouty Sport.
"I have decided to sell Hamed to provide liquidity for the club, as his contract expires in six months," said the Cairo-based elected President Mortada Mansour, speaking to an Egyptian TV program on Sunday.
The ex-Smouha midfielder has been one of the national team's stars in the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, where they finished as runners-up, and he plays crucial role at the World Cup.
"West Bromwich hasn't extended Gabr’s contract, so will be selling him," Mansour added.
Having moved on a six-month loan from Zamalek to West Bromwich in the winter break, the 29-year-old defender Gabr has barely been featured since.
Al Assiuty Sports has been sold to an anonymous foreign investor and has changed its name to Al-Ahram, and is expected to spend it’s big budget on rebuilding the team for the upcoming season.
