AC Milan Italian-Egyptian midfielder Stephan El-Shaarawy
Egyptian-Italian midfielder Stephan El-Shaarawy, who is currently playing for AC Milan, said Saturday that he is angry in not playing for Egypt.
"My heart belongs to Egypt," El-Shaarawy told a press conference held in Dubai when his team arrived to launch their winter closed camp.
"I am proud to be Egyptian; I never ignored my Arab nationality," he added. "I am depressed in not playing for the Pharaohs, because of my participation with the Italy youth team."
"I very happy for the Egyptian revolution, as people in Egypt gained their freedom," El-Shaarawy concluded.
The 19-year-old forward is currently with Serie A giants Milan that arrived to United Arab Emirates Friday to launch the team's winter preparatory camp for remaining games in the Italian League.
In a long interview published by Goal.com two months ago, the AC Milan forward said he had no thoughts of representing Egypt at a senior level.
“To tell you the truth, there was the possibility of playing with Egypt. The Egyptian Federation was looking for me but I always thought of only the Azzurri shirt, and thus I gently declined the offer,” El-Shaarawy said when asked if he thought about playing for Egypt at the national level.
