Egypt has expressed its support for Japan after a powerful and deadly earthquake hit the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido on Thursday.
The foreign ministry offered condolences to the Japanese government over the deaths, adding that Egypt “stands by the government and people of Japan in this adversity.”
At least 18 people were killed in the earthquake that struck the sparsely populated island before dawn, with a magnitude of 6.7. It is the latest natural disaster to hit Japan over the past two months, following floods and typhoons.
