Red Devils director blames referee's miscall for Wednesday's 1-1 draw with El-Entag El-Harby

Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz blasted the referees of the Egyptian Premier League day-13 match against El-Entag El-Harby on Wednesday.

“We should hire more experienced referees and linesmen because they have cost clubs – and the entire Egyptian football business – dearly,” Abdel-Hafiz said following the game.

The match, which ended with a 1-1 draw, sparked controversy after slow-motion television footage showed that striker Hazam Fathy’s 16th-minute goal was an obvious offside.

“Ahly has suffered recently from mistakes by referees, and this has unfairly cost us points,” Abdel-Hafiz added.

The Red Castle are currently bidding for their eighth successive league title, being second in the table with 27 points – only one behind leaders Haras El-Hodoud.

“Before you ask Ahly why they’re not leading the table, ask the referees about the mistakes they’ve made,” he concluded.
